The Michael Filipek Tennis Academy is founded on several concepts, that when combined, provide for an environment where all participants can excel. From beginners through competitive players, our curriculum is designed to maximize each young player’s improvement, understanding, and enjoyment.
QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY APPROACH
At MFTA, we employ a quality, not quantity approach to everything that we do. This means that emphasis will be placed on understanding and practicing the correct way to play the game. From proper technique to scoring, from matchplay strategy to etiquette, our campers will come away with a clear understanding of the many facets of tennis. We limit our on court training to four hours per day in order to avoid “burnout” and make time for video analysis, lectures, physical training, stretching, sun protection and proper hydration—all which are necessary to ensure each young player is healthy, inspired and improved.
BALANCE OF ON COURT AND OFF COURT TRAINING
We structure our program to provide a balance of on-court and off-court training. This helps our campers to be engaged physically, mentally and emotionally in the sport of tennis. Each day at the Michael Filipek Tennis Junior Academy will consist of the following:
On Court Stroke Technique Accuracy and Placement of Shots Footwork Point play Strategy Fun, skill building games
Off Court Video Analysis Lecture and Chalk Talk Physical/mental training Goals assessment Hydration and Sun protection Awards and Prizes Physical Conditioning & Stretching
VISUAL LEARNING
We make it a point to consistently use visual ways of showing our young players how to play the game. Whether through on court demonstrations or slow motion video analysis, our campers will have a clear understanding all elements of tennis.
POSITIVITY + ENTHUSIASM = INSPIRATION
This is the formula that our staff will employ on a daily basis. Emphasis will always be placed on positive reinforcement- as this is certainly main fuel that keeps kids inspired and improving. Also, in order to lead by example, our staff will strive to exude the enthusiasm that we plan to instill in our campers.
